If you tap "use my location", your browser asks for permission and provides your coordinates to the page. Those coordinates are held in your browser's local storage so the site remembers your position between visits. They are not transmitted to us, and there is no server-side account to attach them to.

You can decline the permission entirely and drop a pin manually instead; every feature continues to work. Clearing your browser data removes the stored position.

To show live conditions the site requests weather for two points: your position and the strike location. Those requests go to Open-Meteo and necessarily include the coordinates being queried. Coordinates are rounded to roughly an 11 km grid before being sent, so the request identifies a general area rather than a precise position.

Map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap. As with any web request, these third parties receive your IP address and standard request headers. Lightning strike data is received through this site's own server, so your browser does not connect to Blitzortung.org directly.

The site itself sets no tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage for one purpose: remembering your chosen position and display preferences. This is first-party storage that never leaves your device.

This site may display advertising served by Google, including through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Because the site holds no personal profile about you, there is generally nothing for us to export or erase. The data that matters lives in your own browser and you can clear it at any time. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know and the right to delete. This site does not sell personal information.
